Re: Billy on DVD
Wed, January 28, 2004 - 11:05 AMSo, I should actually do a bit of work now but, I noticed there hasn't been much activity on the Billy tribe lately. No, I haven't seen the Billy/Wilco DVD yet. The problem being the Wilconess of it all. I prefer sheer unadulterated Billy. Maybe someday I will make the leap; I am wrestling with some Billy is better than no Billy argument. -

Wed, January 28, 2004 - 11:17 AMI'm with you on the solo Billy thing for sure. Wilco is a bit dull... I just thought the story of how the Guthries came to entrust Billy with Woody's words would be really interesting. -

I agree. But who else could do Woody but Billy? I wonder if the video store near me carries it? -

I'm still surprised that Bob Dylan wasn't asked. To me, he's a natural choice. He visited Woody while he was dying in a hospital and befriended him when everyone else had forgotten who he was. He was more obviously influenced by him than anyone, including Billy or Springsteen. -

Sun, February 15, 2004 - 3:35 PM"He visited Woody while he was dying in a hospital and befriended him..." Yeah, I'm aware of the Dylan thing, but I heard it was more like pestered him. Guthrie was a mentor to Dylan and then Dylan moved on. Woody influenced a lot of people one can't argue that. Politically speaking Billy is the only choice to do Woody; we know where Billy stands politically because he lets us know and he standing right next to Woody.
