Ok... What is it? And do we count the Mermaid Ave. Stuff?

Personally, I'm leaning towards my introduction to Billy Bragg. Worker's Playtime.

yes, i think you have to count the mermaid avenue stuff. If you discount that, then you have to discount his severance hall performance and others, which would be problematic. My favorite is Back to Basics though, with The Internationale coming a close second.

Yeah. Worker's Playtime rates pretty high with me, too. It's the first one I really listened to as well. Not a bad song on there. No way I'm counting Mermaid Avenue. I like it OK, but it just isn't Billy.

For me, depends on the year. Some years it's Back to the Basics (which was my intro to him, I think, back when). Others I go for the more spangly stuff like on Don't Try This at Home. Reaching to the Converted covers stuff well. But then "Waiting for hte Great Leap Forward" is one of my favoritist songs, so what should I do with Worker's Playtime?

Regardless, Billy put on the best live show I've ever been to, besides an open mike once at Club Hell in DC where there was this guy that just blew my mind. Never saw him again, probably never will. Friggin' A.

"The Internationale" was my introduction to Billy Bragg, followed by "Help Save the Youth of America."

Back to Basics is surely a cool collection but yeah Workers Playtime does get alot of play chez moi too.

I like that "Reaching to the Converted" collection too. i saw Billy play on the tour for Mermaid Avenue with Wilco at the WOMAD festival here. Wilco actually sucked they were super drunk and out of it, so I can't say it was their best impression. But Billy by himself kicked ass!

I got to see him again at a concert here in seattle he did at the Bumbershoot festival with his new band, Billy Bragg and the Blokes, the concert was great the band was great and I got to meet him backstage and shake his hand too! too cool!
